What does this quote mean ';If one views the world from the point of a hammer, then every thing becomes a nail';?

...anything is possible...What does this quote mean ';If one views the world from the point of a hammer, then every thing becomes a nail';?
Well, the hammer is far superior to the nail. So if you think that you are the hammer and look at everything from that superior point of view, then everything else to you is going to look unimportant and inferior (like the nail), and you will begin to feel falsely more important than everyone/everything else.

So basically, it means you look down on everyone else and you're stuck up on your own high horse.

Even more basically, it's really not a good thing :)What does this quote mean ';If one views the world from the point of a hammer, then every thing becomes a nail';?
The actual quote comes from the Psychologist Abraham Maslow (Creator of the ';Hierarchy of Needs';). He said, ';If the only tool you have is a hammer, eventually you will treat everyone like a nail.';

What he meant was that managers must have more ways to motivate people other than threats. And if all you can do is threaten, you will cease to motivate people, you will only terrorize them into submission; but you will lose their loyalty and morale, and undermine their productivity.
Welllll.. it could have several meanings, in my opinion..

If you think about the hammer in general.. what is it really? It's a tool of blunt force that is used for the task of forcing something to do something. Usually to submit, right? The nail isn't given the option NOT to move, right?

So the first meaning I would say, could be that this could be taken negatively depending on the metaphor itself and it's use in a story. Are they making a judgement on the hammer as it is a bad thing.. such as a person who does not budge and tries to force everyone to his will?

The second would be that staying stubborn.. seeing everything from one point of view might or might not be good.. if good, it means a task can be preformed with the right focus.. if bad, it could mean that we are not broadening our horizons enough to see the object as something else it could be.. and the extra negative in that statement would be the hammer to nail reference.. imagine being a nail to someone who is a hammer? how angry would you be knowing that someone else saw you as a submissive item that they should pound into submission.. not good.

Either way, the hammer and the nail are important keys in understanding the statement. One is the preditor, one is the submitter.. the only time that would be good is if you were looking at tasks to plug away at, and not people.
It means your view of the world effects your actions in the world.

A hammer has basically one job. So to a hammer everything is a nail.

We have the ability to see things from many views but most people still only view it like the hammer refusing to see anything but the nail.
If one views the world from a successful, powerful, perspective, everyone else seems weak and owned.

Basicly, if you think highly of yourself and look down at other people, then everyone else will seem lower and not as important as you.
If you have power in your hands then everything becomes possible.
if you think of yourself as big and mighty, everyone else will cower away, scared of you.
Im guess that if one looks at the world in evil, that they will pound the rest, which wold be te nail
Will *nailed* it!

Get it?
